ABOUT KYALAMI PARK

The Kyalami Park is a prestigious Commercial Park, with approximately 250 companies.

The Kyalami Business Park is very popular for its location. Its proximity to Pretoria and Johannesburg attracts many businesses. The general majestic view from many properties over the Johannesburg, Sandton and Randburg Metropole is a bonus, as well as the envied view over the AA - Racetrack.

The security system is contentiously upgraded to stay a step ahead. State of the art cameras with security guards monitor the vehicles entering and exiting. Late night exits are further controlled with an electronic spike-boom operation. Approximately 25000 vehicles enter the Park daily without delays.

Lush landscaped gardens, parks, dams and excellent roads make the Kyalami Park an attractive business location. Many of the roads are named after the most famous racetracks in the world. A drive on the 'Monte Carlo' Crescent is as enjoyable as on the 'Indianapolis' Road.

The Kyalami Downs Shopping Centre is neighbouring the Park and it is very convenient for daily shopping. The restaurants are recommendable for business lunches or after hour meetings.

Opposite the Kyalami Park is the residential Kyalami Estate.

KYALAMI PARK HISTORY

THE KYALAMI BOULEVARD IN THE PARK WAS PART OF THE GRAND PRIX CIRCUIT

The picturesque Kyalami Boulevard was once part of the original Formula 1 racetrack

The Kyalami Business Park was initiated by an Anglo American Company called AMAPROP TOWNSHIPS in the mid-80's.

AMAPROP's original intention was to develop a Residential Estate surrounded by a racetrack, where events would be held once or twice a year. However, the then-Minister of Sport, FW de Klerk, contacted AMAPROP and expressed the need for a formal racetrack, where South Africa could host events more than a couple of times a year. After consultation, the racetrack was moved to the Southern boundary of Kyalami Business Park, where it still stands today under the AA's ownership.

The idea of a Residential Estate quickly changed, and, in late-1987, the developer began installing services to the vacant land. In 1989, vacant stands were put on the market for what was about to be South Africa's largest Business Park.

It's certain that few people in the Park know that every day, when they come through those security booms, they are in fact driving on what was once a Formula 1 racetrack. The land on which Kyalami Business Park was built was known internationally as Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, where, years ago, major Formula 1 races took place.

Many famous drivers spun their wheels on what is now Kyalami Boulevard, including the only South African born World Champion Jody Scheckter. Other famous drivers were Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna, Niki Lauda and Nigel Mansell, who was the last driver to win on the old Track in 1985.

The new AA-Racetrack has seen the likes of Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, as well as Alain Prost who, in 1993, won the last F1 race held in Kyalami. But the new track proved rather unpopular with the drivers, because overtaking was virtually impossible.

Nowadays the roads in Kyalami Park feature a 40 km/h speed limit, which is enforced by speed bumps ensuring everybody a safe ride.
